Chong talks about this weeks Throne speech and the opposition to the governments agenda.

Continued from front page.

Throne Speech – Oct. 5th was the opening of a new parliamentary session were Governor General Adrienne Clarkson put forth to parliament it’s goals and how it intends to accomplish these goals.

Opposition amendments seen as rejecting the government's agenda, if passed, could result in government defeat. However, amendments considered "friendly" to the Liberal plan could be passed and keep the government intact.

There's no intent to topple the Martin government this early in its mandate, but the amendments are a reminder that the Liberals need opposition support, Chong says. He sees the current situation remaining stable at least till next fall. The voters don’t have an appetite to return to the polls and we realize they’ll punish those who attempt to defeat the current minority government.
