Halton Hills:
Parliament Hill Report
Michael Chong, M.P.
Wellington-Halton Hills
This is the first of what I hope to be many columns that will inform
you of what is happening on Parliament Hill and in our riding of
Wellington-Halton Hills.
The
last number of weeks have been spent hiring staff, securing office
space, and generally getting the offices up and running. I am
pleased to announce that we are now open to serve you. Our toll
free number is (866) 878-5556.
Don’t
hesitate to call us if you need assistance of any kind. We are here
to help.
Another part of our plan to serve you is to begin a series of “town
hall” meetings throughout Wellington-Halton Hills
.
These meetings will serve as an opportunity for you to voice your
concerns and an opportunity for me to listen. We will let you know
of future dates and locations.
The
38th Parliament commences on Oct. 4. The first business
of the House in any new Parliament is the election of the Speaker,
who runs the House of Commons. That will take place on October 4.
The
second business of a new Parliament is the Queen’s Speech, or Speech
from the Throne. Here Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson, as
representative of the crown, outlines the government’s agenda and
priorities for the new Parliament. That will take place on Oct. 5,
and will likely be her last Speech from the Throne, as her term of
five years is nearing completion.
Let
me finish this first column by saying that it is a great honour and
privilege to represent you on Parliament Hill. This sacred trust is
something that I will uphold, by doing my best and work my hardest
for you.
The
office is located at 200 St. Patrick St. East Suite 5, Fergus, ON
N1M 1M4.
