Gillian Tuck Kutarna enters the Halton District School Board Trustee race

Halton Hills - Georgetown: The mother of four children (grades 2, 4, 6, and 8) who all attend at H.D.S.B. schools, has been actively involved in their schools throughout.

Gillian is a lawyer, with a practice specializing in family law, with an emphasis on the needs of children in divorces, education law, with an emphasis on children with special education needs, moved to Halton ten years ago.

Gillian has volunteered on the following volunteer boards: Interim member, Halton Health Care, Member of the Georgetown Hospital Transition Team (from William Osler to Halton Healthcare), Bennett Health Care Centre, William Osler Health Care Centre (former Vice Chair), Georgetown Hospital and Halton Legal Aid. In addition to an LL.B, she also has a Masters in Public Administration and an Honours in Political Studies.

Should she be elected, her goals include:

1. Exploring ways in which Halton schools can combine teaching its students environmental responsibility, with modeling environmental best practices by staff and facility managers, i.e. making Halton the provincial leader in the "greening" of its schools.

2. Ensuring good fiscal management and accountability

3. Advocating for appropriate long term solutions for high growth areas with over-crowded schools.

4. Governance practices which include teamwork and leadership at the Trustee level

5. Development of a long term policy direction, including a commitment to making Halton a Centre of Academic Excellence.
