Halton - Halton Hills: Today Prime Minister Harper unvieled his cabinet and Michael Chong - MP for Wellington - Halton Hills was appointed President of the Queen's Privy Council and assigned Minister to two cabinet post; Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister for Sport.

OTTAWA – Wellington-Halton Hills M.P. Michael Chong was sworn in today as President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister for Sport.

Michael commented on his appointment, saying, “I’m honoured to have been asked to serve in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s first cabinet as President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister for Sport. I will work hard to ensure that Canada is one nation indivisible from coast to coast to coast, so that all Canadians from all regions are an integral part of this great country of ours.”

He added, “While I now have additional responsibilities, I remain committed to my primary responsibility – that is to serve the people of Wellington-Halton Hills as their Member of Parliament in Ottawa.”

Intergovernmental Affairs is part of the Privy Council Office and deals with policy in such areas as federal-provincial-territorial relations, Aboriginal affairs, the evolution of the federation and Canadian unity. As Minister for Sport, Michael will also have responsibilities for Sport Canada. Sport Canada supports the achievement of high performance excellence and the development of the Canadian sport system to strengthen the unique contribution that sport makes to Canadian identity, culture and society.
