While being interviewed by the press, the MP was asked about the priorities the new Conservative Government had? MP Chong indulged; “Our priorities are to work together with the various parties and members of Parliament. What is certainly not on the table is forming any coalition with the Block”. continues next column ... |
The MP went on to add; “I think the top priorities that Mr. Harper outlined a few weeks ago also have a strong resonance in the other parties, in particular; I think our plan to pass sweeping accountability legislation has strong support from the New Democrats. I think our plan to reduce the GST has broad party support. I think our plan to crack down on violent crimes in our inner cities was something that was endorsed by all parties this election. So I think we’ll work on an issue by issue basis with different parties and I think you’ll see a much more focused government. I think you’ll see a government that is not distracted by damage control. I think that’s going to be the difference between our Government and the Liberal’s (Government)”. ELECTION IMPACT: After a narrow minority win last election and this latest loss, Martin said he will not take the Liberals into another election as leader. The NDP toped 29 seats and the Block lost 10 seats to the Conservatives in Quebec. |
