All Federal Candidates’ Debate and Question Forum. Halton Hills and Wellington Electoral District Agriculture, Food, and Rural Issues Halton Hills: The Halton Hills agricultural community, with support and sponsorship from the Halton Federation of Agriculture, will host an all candidates’ debate and question forum at Hume’s Auction Farm (Directions below) on Monday, January 9th, beginning at 7:00 PM. Candidates Michael Chong of the Conservatives, Rod Finnie of the Liberals, Brent Bouteiller of the Green Party, Noel Duignan of the NDP, and Mike Wisniewski, independent candidate, have all confirmed attendance. The forum will provide an opportunity for area residents to participate in the Canadian political process while addressing local candidates on issues that specifically concern agriculture, food, and rural communities. Kurtis Andrews, a rural youth activist, will act as forum moderator and encourages all people to attend and participate in the event, citing, “there is a crisis in Canadian agriculture and we, as a nation, are risking our sovereignty as we neglect our domestic food supply. Farmers and rural residents are closest to these issues and are most intimately aware of the situation, current repercussions, and the direction Canadian agriculture, rural communities, and our domestic food supply is likely headed. continues next column .. |
As government corruption, Quebec politics, and urban issues take centre stage in Ottawa, we in rural Canada must work hard to get our messages and concerns across to our prospective MPs. Economic viability for farmers, environmental stewardship, and loss of youth in agriculture and rural areas, are important issues that repeatedly miss due attention. This rural public forum will aim to highlight these and many other issues important to rural Halton Hills and Wellington County residents.” Doors open to the forum at 7:00 PM while the debate and question period is scheduled to take place between 7:30 and 10:00 PM. The format of the forum will combine debate questions from the moderator with questions asked by residents directly from the floor. Questions for the debate, posed by the moderator, will be selected from e-mail and written submissions from area residents. Area residents are encouraged to forward questions that deal with agriculture, food, and rural issues to Kurtis Andrews at kurtis@farmstart.ca, or drop off written submissions to Andrews’ Scenic Acres at 9365 10th Sideroad in Halton Hills. Hume’s Auction Farm is located at 9313 of the 4th Line between the 5th (Campbellville S.R.) and 10th Sideroads of Halton Hills (The 4th Line runs parallel to and is between Trafalgar Road and Highway 25), 5 km North of the Milton Water Tower (Postal address and telephone number are listed as Milton).
