The Liberal's new front man for Halton - Wellington riding, Rod Finnie

December 14th., 2005

Halton Hills: Rod Finnie is a man who that has earned the right to represent. He has an extensive civil resume. He is also the man the Federal Liberal Riding Association of Halton - Wellington has united behind as their new Federal Candidate, replacing long time Halton Hills favourite, NHL referee -- Bruce Hood.

Finnie is a man who has extensive experience in the politics of small town communities and has been made well aware of how politics in Parliament can affect us.

He has served two consecutive terms as Mayor of Erin. Mr. Finnie sat on County Council for Wellington County.  Last year Rod was Chair of the Administration Finance and Personnel Committee. He has been an active member of the Family & Children Services Board, St-Joseph's Health Centre Board, and a member and chair of the board of EWAG (East Wellington Advisory Group for Family Services) - which co-ordinates and facilitates delivery of social services to rural areas formerly neglected by city-based services.

In Rod's recent positions he has accomplished a variety of benefits for his community, including;

Partnered the Town of Erin with the Township of Guelph-Eramosa and EWAG to obtain a Family Health Team.

Negotiated with local water-taking companies to donate a portion of their profits back to the community and established monitoring and documentation of the effects on wells in the vicinity.

Worked with developers to preserve historic heritage homes for future generations before contractors were allowed to proceed building new subdivisions in the area.

Supported a Groundwater Protection Study to ensure that his community will have a solid scientific base on which to protect their water.

Prevented the spreading of sewage sludge from Toronto on a sensitive groundwater recharge area.

Partnered with the school board and the County to construct a new high school, together with a 200 seat theatre, a library and space for seniors and young children

In addition, Rod is a successful business man who has operated his land surveying company in Erin since 1985. He is married to Kersti and together they have four children; Tom, Liam, Kyla and Alida.  They also have two grandchildren; Katanga and Azania.

Finnie ask; before you go to the polls, check who has the most experience in serving our communities and as a result has truly entrenched himself in its needs.
