Bonnette's Corporate Culture told; "future looks good", ... but,

December 14th., 2005

Halton Hills - Halton: Mayor Bonnette announces at the Chamber of Commerce's annual Mayor's Christmas Luncheon; The future for Halton Hills looks good.

The Mayor outlined some of the Town's 2005 'Corporate Cultured' accomplishments which included: building permits issued in record high numbers worth more than 180 million dollars in construction value. The streamlining of development approvals and building permits, to name a few.

The Mayor went on to say; he wanted to assure the downtown Georgetown BIA merchants that if the library leaves the BIA area, it will be replaced with something that will continue to attract traffic to that area.

The Halton Herald.ca doesn't take the Mayor's word on anything anymore, especially when we see this in the December 12th, 2005 council agenda;

8G. Report No. FIN-2005-0045 regarding: temporary borrowing of Funds to meet current expenditures.

Here's the high-light of the report;

"a by-law authorizing the borrowing of up to $10,000,000 (TEN MILLION DOLLARS) to meet current expenditures of the municipality for the year 2006."

Borrowing money just to meet current expenditures is not by any standards an indication of "looking good". Once again we've decided to take the Mayor to task on his claim; "the future looks good". We've filed an application to the Town's Clerk through the Freedom of Information Act to receive copies of the Town's Finance Department's Balance Sheets for the close of the last, and current periods. We will report how our future REALLY looks when we receive those reports.
