December 6th ., 2005
Halton Hills
- Halton:
Further to the announcement last week of Chief Ean
Algar's retirement in 2006, the Halton Regional
Police Services Board has begun the process to
identify and select a new Chief of Police.
At a Special meeting held on November 30th, the Police Services Board
decided that in the best interests of the Police Service and the
community, applications from a broad recruitment pool will be sought.
Applications will therefore be invited from both internal and
external candidates. Keith Bird, Police
Services Board Chairman stated "It must be noted
that this decision was taken by the Board in full recognition
of the existence of very talented and highly qualified individuals
within the Halton Regional Police Service." Selection will be
based on qualifications developed through a review
of the needs of the Service and the community.
To assist the Board in the selection process, the Toronto consulting
firm of Ray & Berndtson Lovas Stanley has been engaged. Bird
noted that "Ray & Berndtson has assisted other
Boards in the appointment of senior police
executives across Canada". The selection process will begin
early in the new year with a successor to Chief Algar to be
identified around the middle to end of May 2006.
The Halton Regional Police Services Board is a seven-member civilian
Board that governs the Halton Regional Police. Under the Police
Services Act, the Board is responsible for providing adequate and
effective police services to the citizens of Halton Region.
