Halton loses one of its finest

- Halton:
At the November 24th Police Services Board meeting,
Chief Ean Algar announced that after 38 years of policing in Halton, he
would not seek a further extension of his contract which expires at the end
of
2006.
Chairman Keith Bird and other members of the Board commended and thanked
Chief Algar for his dedication to the Service and to the community. "The
Board is proud of the Chief's many accomplishments and looks forward to his
continued leadership in the transition period", said Keith Bird. The
Chairman also remarked that Chief Algar spent his entire career in Halton
and is Halton's first Chief to be promoted through the ranks.
Chief Algar thanked the Board and members of the Service for their support
and commitment to the residents of Halton Region. "I also want to
extend my thanks to our many community partners and volunteers that help
make Halton one of the safest communities in all of Canada", offered Algar.
"I will continue to give my undivided attention to the Service during the
transition period", said Algar.
The Board has called a special meeting to consider the process it will
undertake to appoint a new Chief.
The Halton Regional Police Services Board is a seven-member civilian Board
that governs the Halton Regional Police. Under the Police Services
Act, the Board is responsible for providing adequate and effective police
services to the citizens of Halton Region.
