Chuleigh says Liberal promises still broken

Halton - Queen's Park - After today's Speech from the Throne allegedly outlining the government's plans for the next session of the legislature, it is obvious to even the most casual observer that the McGuinty Liberals have no plan, said Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh.

"The Liberals re-announced 60 promises from their election campaign in this Throne Speech," said Mr. Chudleigh. "Yet their broken promises remain broken and Ontario taxpayers, still smarting from more than $2,000 per family they have paid in additional taxes and energy costs, will be saddled with at least five new costly bureaucracies."

For those keeping score Mr. Chudleigh said the Liberals added eight new promises to the 231 promises made in the 2003 election. They re announced more than 60 promises indicating loud and clear what promises they hope to fulfill, and which, if they are to be believed, of the nearly 170 remaining promises they will ignore or break outright.

"Having broken more than 50 promises already the Liberals have been proactive in their approach to promise breaking," said Mr. Chudleigh. "Now it appears they are content to merely ignore many promises where in the past their approach has been to actively break them."

Mr. Chudleigh said the Throne Speech demonstrated that the Liberal government's wafer thin plan matches their credibility. He said he was very concerned that there was no financial relief offered hard-pressed Ontarians who, despite promises, have seen no tangible improvement to services, while struggling under the yoke of the high tax  McGuinty government.
