The way it
really is Mike
A Herald parody written
by Al Kirouac of Councillor Mike's O'Leary's column published in the Tanner every week called - "The
Way I see It".

Mike critiques the Tsunami relief
June 30th,
2005
Councillor O'Leary knocked
the global relief efforts of the Tsunami crises stating: "Now we're
hearing that the majority of relief is not getting to the
poorest regions and peoples". He continues on, drawing parallels
to the Live8 campaign efforts, stating: "The Tsunami relief is
actually a valuable lesson".
That leaves us to wonder, was
Mike not paying attention when some of those
Southeast Asian
dictators were corralling reporters? Was
Mike not paying attention when Band-Aid happened? How could he have
been paying attention, none of us heard him object when
Resolution No.
2005-0016 was carried by
council.
Let this be a lesson to all on council who never fail to seize an
opportunity to shine in the political limelight by giving our tax
dollars away to benefit relief organizations who, they deem worthy.
We elected you to govern our municipality, not act as charity givers
in regions far beyond your jurisdiction, to tax deductible
organizations who conveniently withhold administrative levies to
distribute our money, where they sees fit. Charity is a private personal
act that should never be imposed upon by any government.
By-the-way Mike, here's
something to consider next time you're publishing your personal
views, calling others "delusional" in your column, just to
put it all in perspective for you, the Southeast Asian death tolls -
pales in comparison to the worlds annual tally of children that die of
malnutrition at the rate of one every 3.6 seconds.
