Halton Hills - Acton:
Approximately one hundred people attended the Rinada Parkland
meeting last night to discuss the possibilities of what to build
on the newly acquired land near the Acton Arena. Warran Harris,
Recreation and Parks Department, spoke to the residents and
discussed the land that was designated as “open space” and
parkland. There were displays which showed residents the areas
where 6 small parks could be built in and around the new
subdivisions in Acton.

Mr. Harris asked residents to keep in mind that the parcel of
land between Acton High and McKenzie–Smith Bennett, if used
appropriately, could be incorporated into a campus-type
recreational site which would benefit both schools. He asked
residents to think of ways some parcels of land could be worked
together instead of just small individual parks. Fairy Lake Park
will also be under reconstruction in 2006 with plans for an
independent non-profit group to build an amphitheater. Ideas of
having a splash pad there is an option. Converting one of the
tennis courts into a proper Basket Ball court is also under a
consideration.
Work for the 2005 budget has already been completed so the work
on the parks would not commence until 2006. The turf on all new
homes would have to be completed before construction on the
small parks began.
Question period began with a possibility of a new pool for
Acton. That will not be considered at present time. Soccer
fields will be built.
The Skateboard Park Committee was in attendance and sold tickets
at the door to raise money for the Skate Park. Tickets were
"sold out" by 8:00pm.
